Anticipation for ‘The Modern Family Show’ in London

This weekend, I am thrilled to be attending ‘The Modern Family Show’ in London (https://themodernfamilyshow.com/london24.shtml).

Founded by Michael and Wes Johnson-Ellis, known on Instagram as TwoDadsUK (https://www.instagram.com/twodads.u.k/), ‘The Modern Family Show’ is an educational rainbow family building event.

I have previously attended a Men Having Babies (MHB) (https://menhavingbabies.org/) conference in Berlin, and I have written about how this conference was instrumental in helping my husband and me start our journey to fatherhood (https://www.babymoonfamily.com/original-articles/beginning-surrogay-journey).

While MHB focuses exclusively on building a family through surrogacy in the United States and Canada, ‘The Modern Family Show’ is unique in that it is designed to offer more expansive educational content on rainbow family creation.

Some of the topics that will be addressed at the event include:

  • In vitro fertilization (IVF)

  • Intrauterine insemination (IUI)

  • Surrogacy

  • Fostering

  • Co-parenting

  • Fertility preservation

  • Solo parenting

  • Egg/Sperm donation

Even though these are not new topics to me as a physician and intended father through IVF and surrogacy, I’m most excited about the people who will be at the event.

It has been challenging for me to build community and connection with other queer intended and current parents in Sweden.  As an American and because of the largely negative perception of surrogacy in Sweden, I have struggled to meet other people like me.

This is one of the reasons that I started BabyMoon Family (www.babymoonfamily.com).  I wanted to share well-researched, educational, helpful information for other intended parents all over the world, and offer a person for them to connect to, even if only through my writing.

To be able to go to London and meet other queer intended and current parents through all these various routes is very exciting.  Not only will I get to meet and connect with like-minded people, but also I will learn even more about all the various pathways to parenthood for LGBTQ+ people.  Who knows, my husband and I might pursue adoption, fostering, or another method for a second child?

If you are a queer person interested in learning about what it is like to become a parent, or, like me and want to meet other LGBTQ+ parents and rainbow families, you should come to the event.

If you use this link (https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-modern-family-show-london-2024-tickets-726689125737?discount=BABYMOON20), BabyMoon Family can get you a 20% discount on your ticket.

If you come next weekend, email me at bryan@babymoonfamily.com so we can meet up!

Also, stay tuned for next week’s article as I am planning on sharing how the conference went, what I learned, and all my thoughts about the weekend in London at ‘The Modern Family Show.’
